| New
Doctor
We
have been joined by a new doctor, Dr Rachel Levene. Rachel
qualified in 1989 from Newcastle.
Rachel
has recently left NHS practice having been a GP in EC1 for
the last 11 years. Rachel will be working mainly at
Linklaters but will be consulting at Harley Street on Friday
mornings.
Welcome!
The Diet
Doctors
As
some of you will know Samina was away for a while on maternity
leave. She is now back at work.
If
you missed Samina while she was away you could still have
seen her on the telly'! She co-presented the latest
series of the popular programme 'The Diet Doctors'
on Channel 5.
Samina
has also helped write a book associated with the series.
It is called
'Diet
Doctors Inside and Out': The 12-week Plan to Make You Slim
for Life.
It
can be bought at all good bookshops including Amazon.
Computers
and Blood test results
We are very pleased that the practice has adopted
an up to date medical computer system called Crosscare.
Although it is early days yet,the early signs are very optimistic.
Most prescriptions will now be printed. This is more accurate
and makes monitoring safe prescribing a much easier process.
We
also hope by early Spring 2008 that all results from the
laboratory will be sent directly to our computer system.
This will be quicker and more accurate. Hopefully our staff
will spend less time chasing results and mean you will receive
your results rather more quickly.
The
great majority of blood tests are received by us within
24 - 48 hours. If you are worried about a result and
haven't heard from us please phone the practice to enquire.
We do write to everybody regarding their results but this
may mean some days pass before you get your results in writing.

Health
Care Commission Registered
The
practice is now formally registered with the Health Care
Commission. This entails having all aspects of our practice
scrutinised and means all processes within the practice
have been assessed as 'safe' and that modern healthcare
standards have been met. We knew we were doing it
right, but its nice to have formal recognition!

Human
Papilloma Virus (HPV) Vaccination
You
may have read about this new vaccine. It is aimed
primarily at young girls though can be given to women up
to the age of 26. Ideally
though, females should receive this vaccine before they
become sexually active.
By
preventing HPV infection it will prevent the development
of most pre-cancers of the
cervix, vulva and vagina, and genital warts. Studies show
that the vaccination is very safe.
The
vaccine is now available at the HSGP. Three doses
are required. Full assessment by the doctor, and administration
of the vaccine on 3 separate occasions costs £450.00.
The second and third
doses are given approximately 2 and 6 months (respectively)
after the first dose.
If
you or a member of your family would like to consider vaccination
against HPV please do contact us.
