The HSGP is proud to support The Place2Be, the UK's leading child mental health charity. The Place2Be has joined forces with law firm Mishcon de Reya to produce a book written for adults by children on the topic of parental separation.
In ‘Splitting Up – A Child's Guide to a Grown Up Problem’, children of various ages and from different backgrounds - with one shared experience - offer up their feelings on the grown-up problem of splitting up. They give advice to separating parents on how best to support their child, and offer their support to other children going through the same thing.
Samina echoes the feelings of Dame Benny Refson DBE, President and founder of Place2Be, who says: "This book has been created to give children's voices a platform. The children who contributed represent the views and experiences of other children in our society who find themselves caught between parental conflict and separation."
Copies are available through the practice for a donation and all proceeds go to The Place2Be.
We know that patterns of work and life have changed, and so The HSGP is now offering Saturday clinics in response to many requests from our patients. The practice will be open on at least two Saturdays in every month for pre-booked appointments, travel clinic, and Health Assessments, as well as for urgent appointments available on the day. Please do call our helpful admin team on 020 7486 6011 for exact availability.
We hope all our patients had a happy and peaceful time over the festive season and wish you all the very best for the New Year.
We are delighted to begin the year with 3 new additions to the team: Dr Jayne Busby and Dr Hussain Al-Hashimi, both GPs, and Emily Richardson our new Practice Administrator. You can find out more about them on our About Us pages.
We now have this year’s flu (influenza) vaccine in stock. Flu is a highly infectious illness that is spread by the coughs and sneezes of people who have it. The vaccine is particularly recommended if you are over 65, pregnant or have certain chronic illnesses such as diabetes, kidney disease or chest complaints such as COPD or asthma. In such cases flu can develop into more serious things like bronchitis and pneumonia, and make your existing medical conditions worse.
If you would like to find out more or to book an appointment please call the practice on 020 7486 6011.
Samina co-presented the third series of the popular programme The Diet Doctors on Channel 5. Samina was co-writer of the book based on the series. It is called Diet Doctors Inside and Out: The 12-week Plan to Make You Slim for Life.
It can be bought at all good bookshops, including Amazon, or signed copies are available from the practice.
An interview with HSGP doctor (and Samina's father), the late Dr Mansur Ahmad, forms one chapter of the fascinating Doctors Dissected by Jane Haynes and Martin Scurr.
Through a series of candid and personal interviews, the authors lift the ‘mask’ on being a doctor and explore what draws someone to medicine. The book has received superb reviews, with the chapter of Mansur being cited as a highlight by many. After selling out its hardback imprint, it has just been released in paperback with a new foreword by Professor Mike Pringle, former President of the RCGP. It can be bought at all good bookshops, including Amazon.co.uk
We are delighted to be able to offer our patients an excellent price on CT coronary angiograms in partnership with Dr Jonathan Hill, Consultant Cardiologist at London Bridge Hospital. This is a state-of-the-art heart test which supercedes the current standard of exercise testing by removing a lot of the guesswork from cardiac assessment, offering definitive reassurance to patients.
